Giving the Tiger more Bite!

Vortex is working with Tiger Hovercraft in an effort to improve the performance of their Tiger 12 hovercraft. Two units were delivered to be fitted to the engines, but the recent spate of bad weather prevented the work being carried out.

The work is scheduled to be carried out in February, and the results will be posted here.

The hovercraft is currently based in Essex and is being used as a rescue craft at the Gunfleet Sands wind farm construction in the North Sea and Thames Estuary.


Praise for Vortex on Alfa Forums

We recently fitted a Vortex 2¼” catback system on an 2.2 liter Alfa Romeo Brera. The owner, Dinesh De Silva has been praising the system on the Alfa Romeo Forum (www.alfaowner.com/forum).

“IT WORKS!! It really does what they claim. The strong low-rev torque achieved on the old catback system has been maintained, and the mid and especially high end torque had gone WAY up.................... MPGs have already gone up about 2 or 3 mpg (10-12%) on the computer; I will need to verify on brim to brim tests but as the map/ECU has not been altered for a year I think we can take it as read that the MPGs have increased.”

He also praised the quality of our 3flo mufflers.

“They have used good quality silencers, there is absolutely no drone. You can hear an increase in volume at 2500 revs but nothing drastic and no drone. At idle, it's quieter than the previous catback system so a bit more like the original exhaust sound, but it still pulses more like a V6 than a 2.2 I think. When it gets close to 4000 revs the entire system goes totally silent and en-ters some kind of stealth mode! Great for high speed cruising.”

Vortex + Pajero = WIN!!

Richard Fenton, owner of a Mitsubishi Pajero 2.5 Tdi, was highly skeptical of the Vortex and the claims of what it does achieve. After visiting us at the MPH Show and talking to Barry, he brought his vehicle to us in Grays to have a 2½” Sportsflo catback system fitted.

“On the day of fitment it was a reasonably windy day having to travel approximately 45 miles down the A12 and M25 from Braintree to Grays in Essex. I filled up the tank to half full, about 30 liters and used ¼ of a tank getting to Vortex……….This is no word of a lie as I drove home back to Braintree exactly the same way, the wind was still roaring about the car. The fuel gauge hardly moved. It was if I had a tanker behind me constantly filling my car with fuel to keep the gauge at the same level as when I left the Vortex premises.”

Richard also had this to say about emissions;

“Before and after results……….was down from 114 to 79.

I can of course only comment on my car and the findings I have found out, but trust me on this one, I was a huge cynic before I went for it. I would urge you to spend your money and get one fitted.”


Point of Sale Items Revamped

Our promotional and sales literature has been given a makeover. Also a whole batch of new promotional leaflets were commissioned in time for the Autosport Show 2010, including a revamp of the existing Raceflo leaflets. New leaflets include Product Range, Tuning, Tails & Tips, BendPak (2 types) and 3flo.

We have also commissioned seven new poster boards for use in reception areas, all of which were on display at the Autosport Show. (see left).


BendPak - A steady start

Since acquiring the distributorship for the UK and Europe in March last year, the BendPak side of the business has seen a steady start.
To ensure our customer’s are not waiting for spares and machines, we have now in stock a selection of machines and spare parts for maintenance. However if the demand continues further investment for a larger stock level will have to be considered.

At both the MPH Show in November 2009 and the Autosport Show in January 2010, we had a BendPak machine as a central part of our stands. Great interest was taken in the machine by visitors to both shows, in particular by trade customers & in many cases, this interest was transferred into an interest in taking on dealerships.

We anticipate an increase in business for the BendPak range of pipe benders in the coming year.

New Website Proving a Hit

The new website (www.vortex-performance-exhausts.co.uk) is proving a great success in generating new sales queries on all product lines.

Optimization of key words coupled with pay-per-click advertising campaigns are pushing the website to the top spot in various categories of Google searches.

The website is being constantly examined and improved where necessary on a regular basis.

A particular success has been the Catalytic Converter section, which allows customers to buy direct online via PayPal.

Future additions in the form of pages for Vortex Motoflo and Sportsflo are being planned.

Product News - Retrofit Systems

Vortex Exhaust Technology have developed the first of a new series of retrofit exhaust systems which include the Vortex silencer.

We have developed bolt on systems for the Subaru Impreza, Land Rover Discovery and Mitsubishi Shogun.

Show Report - Autosport Show 2010

On the 14th - 17th of January 2010, Vortex Exhaust Technology hosted a stand at the Autosport Show 2010, at the NEC Birmingham. Our full product range was on display, from Vortex Silencers to a BendPak pipe bender, and race cats to the Tuning equipment.

The entire Vortex staff were on hand to answer questions from prospective customers, together with model Sophie Hall. The first two days were dedicated to trade customers, and some significant contacts were made for new dealers both in the UK and Europe, as well as useful contacts in the supply chain.

We were also joined by several guests with whom we have a working relationship in various areas. Helmut Koch, our partner in Vortex Tuning was on hand for the trade days to answer technical questions regarding the tuning range.

Also on the stand with us for two days were some well known figures from the world of motorsports, John Hoad, his son Jonathan, and Robin Rich. John Hoad is the Chief Technician for the Williams F1 Racing Team, and has a lifetime of experience in performance engineering.

Jonathan Hoad is a hugely successful Formula Ford 1600 driver , whose performance has brought him to the attention of various F1 teams. Jonathan’s car (seen pictured at right) uses a Vortex exhaust system for practice and race qualifying (A specified exhaust system has to be used for actual racing). Jonathan stated that the Vortex system has given him an enhanced performance which has allowed him to obtain better starting positions on the grid and that over the years they have tried and tested a large number of other silencers, all of which cost power and performance.

Robin Rich is a respected designer and builder of cars for the Le Mans 24hr Races. He has worked with Bentley, Mercedes and Jaguar.

The amount of interest shown and the number of leads generated over the four days adds up to a successful show for Vortex Exhaust Technology.

MPH Show Report 12th - 15th November 2009

For the first time, Vortex hosted a stand at the prestigious MPH Show 2009 featuring Top Gear Live.

Positioned in a prime location in the Performance and Styling section of the show, our product display created a great interest from the general public and we were able to make some useful contacts with trade customers. Central to the display was the "cage" displaying Vortex silencers, Vortex 3flo mufflers and performance catalytic converters, together with a selection of our tails and tips.

Also on the stand and generating alot of interest was a fully automatic BendPak pipe bending machine and a Spyder three-wheel roadster, courtesy of Can-Am UK.

Over the four days, the entire Vortex staff was on hand to answer questions from visitors to the stand regarding our product lines, and professional model, Sophie Hall, also did a great job of handing out leaflets and attracting customers to the stand.

Mazda and Vortex™ Exhausts come together for new rally class

Promenade Stages Rally – New Brighton, 5th September 2009

This was the first event for the new Mazda 2 rally car. It is planned that it will be the first of many in a new one-make rally series due to be launched in 2010. This new project is being supported by Mazda Cars, Vortex™ Exhausts, Vortex™ Tuning, Vortex™ Catalysts, Furrows, Dunlop, Mintex and Automac UK.

The cars will all be built by Rallyschool.co.uk to an exact specification, which will include Vortex™ race systems, and will make for a very competitive one-make rally series in the UK. The car and series has already received much media attention in the sports press, with many enquiries having been received. Until the cars final specification is confirmed a price for the package is yet to be announced, but the car is destined to be potentially the best value for money (pound for pound) series available in the UK.

It should attract drivers both young and old, with the opportunity to show their ability in winning this prestigious new series.

The car is still in its final testing stages, and although it will use many competition parts as regards suspension, brakes, and safety equipment, etc; there are no major performance modifications being used, as the series will be based on the production car as much as conceivably possible.

Due to a late change of suspension, the car received its debut on the Wallasey MC Promenade Stages, as a shakedown event prior to its forest debut planned for early October. Driven by Rallyschool.co.uk’s competition parts supplier Neil McDonald and co-driven by fifteen year old Sarah Craddock, also on her first rally, the car ran faultlessly on the event and created much attention.

Performance & Styling Show 2009 - March 30th

Vortex attended the Performance & Styling Show 2009 at Stoneleigh Park, Coventry. This show was an aftermarket show and was organized by Performance & Styling magazine.

Over the 2 days of the event, a great interest was shown in the Vortex mufflers, as well as the other products that we are introducing to our range.

Also a number of attendees from the motor and car electronics trade expressed interest in becoming franchisees.

Hands Across The Ocean - March 18th

Vortex is proud to announce that we are now the official UK distributor for Bendpak® pipe bending machines. Bendpak® are an American company, based in California, which specialises in equipment for the automotive trade.

This partnership means that we can now supply pipe bending machines and ancillaries directly to our franchises and other customers.
